A Word About Us

Church History

1875 - 2017

Woods Chapel United American Free Will Baptist Church was first organized under a "brush shelter" in the year of 1875. The church was named at the time, Woods Grove to honor the Woods family. ( James M. Woods June 17th 1853 - October 18th 1920 and Mrs. Hulia P. Smith Woods, October 7 1869 - January 14th 1937) who donated one half acre of their land for the building of the church in 1895. Mr. James M. Woods was a man of wealth , but a man with a giving spirit.

In 1895, a larger church was built at the present site, under the leadership of Reverend G. F. Suggs. Some of the officers were Deacons Gideon Hines and J. S. Thompson, Trustees Jeff Smith and Reuben Whitfield, Secretary Hames A. Coley and Mothers Dora Lofton and Laura Bryant.

The church was first remolded in 1945, under the pastoral leadership of  Rev. W. L. Jones. The cornerstone was erected the same year. Bishop J. E. Reddick became the Bishop of the North West "B" Conference during the 1964 session, which was held at Woods Chapel Church. Ref C. R. Lofton was pastor of Woods Chapel Church when he was appointed Assistant Bishop.

Elder Leo Deans was elected pastor in April 2013. Woods Chapel in one of more than fifty organized churches an missions in the United American Free Will Baptist Denomination Inc (Northwest "B" Conference) and is one of ten assigned churches in District Union Number 3.

Joining a church can mean many things to many people. Some seek out God and community when they feel they have lost their way, or are seeking a deeper purpose, or are looking for a way to connect to their family and cultural identity. But it is our believe that the Church, at its core, is about finding love and beauty through God and God’s work.

At Woods Chapel United American Free Will Baptist Church, we inspire individuals of all ages and backgrounds to bring the Lord Almighty into their lives at every moment - moments of joy, moments of despair, and even those moments in between. We are committed to the teachings of Jesus Christ, and are here to spread His message with loving patience and kindness. Contact us

What We Believe

We believe that God is the Farther Almighty and that he is the maker of heaven and earth as the scriptures have said. We believe in Jesus, that he is the Christ and the only begotten Son of the Father. He is the way, the truth and the life. He was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead and buried. On the third day, he rose from the dead and declared victory over the grave, death and hell. He has gone back to the Father to prepare a place for us in his Kingdom. He will come back as he promised to judge the world and to deliver the righteous. We believe in the Holy Ghost, the Christian Church, the Communion of Sins, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and eternal life for all true believers.

Amen
